Stuff You Wouldn't Think He'd Have Said

"Every gain that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed."--Eisenhower

But look how much safer we are with our guns and bombs, tanks and planes and ships at sea projecting power. Them that are hungry and cold will just have to stay that way...the Blankenfien's of this world need their security too. they after all are "doing god's work"

ahh, you had me going there for a second.

I like the late Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s quote:

On astronauts: Take the village idiot and shoot him up in a pressure cooker.

we spend more chasing phony skies
than understanding what's seen
with naked eyes.

great comments here Benji and a great quote from the 34th prez-I never understood Eisenhower in the sense that he KNEW so much was going on around him that was wrong-and was a very courageous man but didn't really ever step in to stop it-the McCarthy, HUAC stuff-the military buildup -and he sure as hell knew about the MIC because he warned about it so succinctly in his farewell address on 17 Jan 1961-I do give him credit for being a decent human being -especially compared to some of the monsters we have had as presidents
I just wish he had shown the umph he had as a general in the oval office-maybe he just got tired in the end?
best to you and your family as always Benji!!

Devin I had no idea you knew so much about Eisenhower. Interesting observations. Those were strange times, when the biggest gay-bashers were gay men and apparently the biggest peaceniks had itchy button-fingers.
