The Confidence of Jesus

“When Oscar Wilde allegedly gestured at the garish wallpaper in his cheap Parisian hotel room and announced with his dying breath, ‘Either it goes or I go,’ he was exhibiting something beyond an irrepressibly brilliant wit. Freud, you see, wasn't whistling Edelweiss when he wrote that gallows humour is indicative of ‘a greatness of soul.’ The quips of the condemned prisoner or dying patient tower dramatically above, say, sallies on TV sitcoms by reason of their gloriously inappropriate refusal, even at life's most acute moment, to surrender to despair.”
--Tom Robbins

The Confidence of Jesus
I’d crucify myself to have
the self-confidence of Jesus Christ
he, who when he walked into the city
was praised
he, who was asked
why do they praise thee?
he, who answered
‘if they did not praise me
the rocks would praise me’
With that attitude
I wouldn’t need water
I could walk on air

Jesus was
Greek?

Great post. It's interesting to know that building self-confidence can be as easy as ABC. Interestingly enough, www.confidencebuildingcourses.com offer good tips too. Might be interesting to check it out.

Whaaa?

Ivan

Ivan: the whole bible's greek to me.

Ammy: what ivan said.

Greeks are cool cats.

They finally got a "Greek" torch bearer (Third Gneration,Toronto)
To carry the oympic torch

Ivan

for sure. i used to live in Greektown in Trana, fantastic neighbourhood. my favourite greek event was 'no' day, to celebrate the day (back in W W 2) the Greeks said 'no' to Mussolini, who had offered them the dubious opportunity to be his allie.

The poem speaks for itself, but the Tom Robbins quote is something else!

I once read the Oscar Wilde used to stop people as they crossed the street in London, and point at dandelions growing from a crack in the sidewalk, saying "look at that!" And he would grab their arm and make them look, all the while his voice rising. "Did you ever think that in all this squallor, all this wretchedness and filth, life can still take root and thrive in spite how hard we try to crush it?"

One has to respect a guy like that. He annoyed everyone so much, they railroaded him for the same "crimes" overlooked in a million others of his day.

As an aside, I have "the Portrait of Dorian Gray" but haven't yet had a chance to read it.

The travesty!

you know i never read wilde, though i think we have a collected works of his around here somewhere. but by all accounts he was quite the character, someone well worth having around. and you can't beat those dying words - i think he even has voltaire beaten on that score.

Jesus sounds like a right arrogant twat. No wonder they crucified him.

Did I say that out loud?

i dunno Toast, i like the kid's confidence. 'if they didn't praise me the rocks would.' zing.

Taking it a step further, I do believe that Ammy may believe you have what it takes to be the next Christ.
I expect to see you riding the wind sometime soon.

too bad i can't afford Ammy's classes. jesus would have given a freebie.
